Image Credit: Steve Stroh N8GNJ The HamSCI Workshop took place from March 14 - 15, 2026 in New Britain, CT. Board member Phil Karn KA9Q and Grants Communications Team (GCT) member Steve Stroh N8GNJ represented ARDC at the event, joining both researchers and amateur radio operators to explore radio science and experimentation. The event featured a range of talks and poster presentations, sparking thoughtful conversations with both presenters and attendees. Poster topics extended beyond amateur radio, highlighting broader scientific research and technological innovation. With the workshop held near Newington, CT, participants had the opportunity to visit ARRL Headquarters and operate from W1AW. Events like HamSCI continue to highlight the strong connection between amateur radio and scientific communities, and we look forward to attending the event again in the future. ARDC Group SOTA ActivationEvery year, ARDC staff and board get together for an all-hands meeting. This year, we held our meeting in Vancouver, BC, where we got to do a Summits on the Air (SOTA) activation at Burnaby Mountain (VE7/GV-009). Organized by board member Bob Witte K0NR (Double Mountain Goat and author of VHF, Summits, and More) and Communications Manager Rebecca Key KO4KVG (another SOTA enthusiast on the team), they mentored the group on portable operations. Bob led the VHF/UHF group; Rebecca led the HF group; and ARDC Treasurer Ria Jairam N2RJ was operating QRP digital. From the summit, folks made contacts with operators from nearby in Vancouver to CA and MT, leading to successful SOTA activations and enjoying our time together outdoors. A huge thank you to Bob, Rebecca, and Ria for bringing radio equipment for the activation; ARDC Secretary Keith Packard K7WQ for providing a 20Ah battery for all of us to use; and Keith and Executive Director Rosy Schechter KJ7RYV for driving the team to and from the summit. It was a great day to get the team together to get on the air!
