Grant: Waves of Innovation: A Digital Communications Makerspace for Middle School

Date: August 2025
Amount: $5,000

The Innovation School is a project-based K-8 program in North Dakota focused on hands-on learning for diverse students, many of whom learn differently. Its mission is to help students gain confidence, discover strengths, and build real-world skills through meaningful projects.

This project will create a digital communications makerspace for middle school students. They will study radio and wireless technology through hands-on activities such as building antennas, using software-defined radios, and trying digital modes. Students will complete projects, track their progress, and build confidence through problem solving. Local amateur radio volunteers will help them prepare for licenses. At the conclusion, students will share their projects and invite others to get involved in amateur radio.
