Grant: IntelliWarn Grid: Resilient AREDN & IoT Mesh for GLOF Disaster Resilience in Chitral, Pakistan
Date: March 2026
Amount: TBD
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is a research university in Pakistan. Its Centre for Water Informatics and Technology focuses on applying research to real-world water and climate challenges. This project builds on that work by developing a flood early warning system for remote mountain regions.
The IntelliWarn Grid will establish an off-grid network using AREDN along with LoRaWAN and LoRa mesh technologies. It will link upstream and downstream locations and support IP telephony, CCTV monitoring, and sensor data from weather and stream level systems. A community control room will be set up for coordination and monitoring. The project will also include training and handover to the local community. The goal is to provide earlier warning in areas without reliable cellular service and demonstrate a system that can be replicated in other high-risk regions.
