Grant: Mataguay Scout Ranch HF Radio Tower/Optibeam Implementation
Date: March 2026
Amount: $15,048
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting America includes young women and young men. The 49 San Diego Imperial Council is also part of K2BSA. The K2BSA Amateur Radio Association is dedicated to extending the reach of amateur radio within the Scout movement. Key events include Jamboree on the Air as well as national and world Jamborees.
With ARDC grant funding, the 49 San Diego Imperial Council will install a US Tower HDX 555 and the Optibeam OB15-7 HF antenna at the Mataquay Scout Ranch, located in the rural mountains of San Diego County. The antenna system will be connected to HF transceivers for use by Scouts at Summer Camp and year around use after the implementation. The longer term plan is to make the radio operating station at the Mataquay Scout Ranch a remotely shareable operating station.
