Grant: GBARC Meshtastic Network Expansion
Date: March 2026
Amount: $1,383
The Greater Bridgeport Amateur Radio Club (GBARC) is an ARRL-affiliated organization serving Bridgeport, CT, and surrounding communities. Their mission is to:
- Foster collaboration and information-sharing between amateur radio operators
- Promote radio knowledge, operational efficiency, and camaraderie
- Host programs and activities that encourage the growth of amateur radio in their community
Their grant funded project will install Meshtastic Solar Nodes in strategic locations to fill in coverage gaps in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The goal of doing this will be two-fold: first, to provide a completely self-sustaining, off-the-grid digital mesh network to provide a communication path for the Connecticut ARES Region 1 use in the event of an emergency. If successful, this will be used as a model for the rest of the state. Secondly, it will link ham radio clubs in Fairfield County with each other, fostering experimentation with new technology, coordination and cooperation between area amateur radio operators.
