Grant: Bellingham Makerspace
Date: December 2021
Amount: $62,785
The Bellingham Makerspace is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote, support, and advance technical, scientific, entrepreneurial and artistic skills through innovation and invention by individuals and collaborative projects within our community. Their goals are accomplished by building a creative space for like minds that provides access to tools and resource materials, providing educational opportunities via classes, group instruction or individualized programs, and mentorship that brings creativity to life.
This grant will enable their new group, the Bellingham Makerspace Amateur Radio Group (BMARG), to build out and improve the public presence of amateur radio within the makerspace, equip BMARG to promote amateur radio and support new Amateur Radio operators, and upgrade its capabilities for hosting more public events and serial classes.
Update
After careful consideration the Bellingham Makerspace decided to return a total of $45,378 to ARDC. This decision was made as the project encountered unforeseen difficulties that prevented it from being carried out in full. Equipment purchased with grant funds that could not be used was donated to local amateur radio groups.
