Grant: What’s the Frequency?
Date: March 2025
Amount: $1,783
Apex Friendship Middle School, located in Apex, North Carolina, has been awarded a grant to enhance its hands-on radio technology project for eighth-grade students in the Engineering Technological Systems class. With this funding, the school will be able to provide students with radio kits that will allow them to build and experiment with their own radios, providing valuable learning experiences in the fields of circuitry and communication technology.
The project will allow students to assemble and test different radio models, exploring how variations in components like coils and antenna lengths affect radio performance. In addition to building their own radios, students will analyze their results, collect data, and present their findings. The project will culminate in a demonstration where students will share their hand-made radios with other students, including those from a neighboring elementary school.
Through this project, Apex Friendship Middle School aims to inspire a new generation of students to understand and engage with radio technology. This hands-on experience will give students a deeper understanding of how radios work and help promote an interest in technology and engineering.
