Grant: A.R.E.S. New repeater site

Date: March 2025
Amount: $30,945

A.R.E.S. (Association Radio Expérimentale du Sud de Québec) is a non-profit amateur radio organization dedicated to serving French-speaking radio enthusiasts across the South Shore of Quebec City and surrounding regions. The group operates and maintains an extensive network of 17 permanently interconnected VHF and UHF repeaters, providing reliable communication infrastructure for both everyday users and public safety organizations.

A.R.E.S. has received a grant to install a new VHF amateur radio repeater on Mont-Blanc in Gaspésie, Québec, where no repeater has previously existed. The site is remote and has no commercial communication coverage. The solar powered repeater will support emergency communication for hikers and SEPAQ staff. It will also extend VHF coverage to an unserved region and connect to A.R.E.S.’s existing network using microwave links.
