Grant: HacDC Amateur Radio Club upgrades and engagement strategy

Date: November 2021
Amount: $26,319

Founded in 2009 by five licensed area hams, the HacDC Amateur Radio Club (HARC) has until now focused on hardware building, operating, and assisting prospective hams with their licenses. Now, they have a new strategy to better serve District of Columbia hams and the DC community at large. The stategy includes conducting a class to engage new hams with activities and resources, rebuilding the ARES emergency communications service in the District of Columbia, and providing all DC hams, many of whom live in buildings with antenna restrictions, the opportunity for remote and hands-on local operation. Grant funds from ARDC will purchase things such as repeaters and maintainance, antennas, tower sections, and amplifiers.
