Grant: IntrepidDX Essay Contest

The Intrepid-DX Group, founded in 2010, promotes amateur radio activity in emerging nations and to provide education in the area of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). They have given STEM presentations in Iraq, Rotuma (Fiji) South Sudan, and Ethiopia, and met with students in Iran and North Korea.

An ARDC grant of $1,500 will help them fund their annual youth “Dream Rig” essay contest. The essay contest is open to all US-FCC amateur radio license holders age 19 or younger. The goal of the contest is to stimulate thought, increase communications with youth and to provide a deserving youth with a “Dream Rig” to stimulate their amateur radio activity. In particular, the award will allow them to purchase the following prizes:

  • First prize: Icom IC-7300
  • Second prize: Yaesu FT65 VHF/UHF handheld transceiver
  • Third prize: Yaesu FT65 VHF/UHF handheld transceiver
