Grant: Network Analytics Tools for Understanding Wireless Systems

Grant date: September 2021
Amount: $64,213

State-of-the-art wireless and mobile technologies, such as Wi-Fi and 4G LTE/5G, have enabled billions of global users to access the internet “anywhere, anytime”. The recent surge in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques has further promised to enhance networking technologies. This project will fund Purdue University researchers studying ways to improve education and empower technical innovations in wireless and mobile networking technologies in the age of AI.

This grant will allow Purdue University researchers to build ready-to-use, easy-to-understand, wireless network analytics tools for the purpose of education and technical innovation in digital communications. Building on the researchers’ recent success with MobileInsight and MI-LAB, the goal is that these tools will help students and researchers quickly understand and develop innovative software-defined wireless technologies using AI techniques. The grant will fund several extensions to MobileInsight and MI-LAB to make them easier to use and to allow them to be used for a wider range of wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi and 5G/4G cellular technologies. The tools will be open-source and freely available to the public.
