Grant: Amateur Radio Educational Program

Date: May 2022
Amount: $13,452

The South Mountain Radio Amateur Club (SMRA) membership is approximately 100 active members from Cumberland and adjacent counties in PA. SMRA provides a number of activities that aim at growing amateur radio, advancing members’ operational and technical skills, and provide emergency communication services for the community.

With this grant, SMRA intends to offer an expanded and more comprehensive training class in a variety of locations, including the Public Safety Training Room located at the EOC in Cumberland County, PA, the Bosler Library in Carlisle, PA, the South Middleton Township Municipal Building, and the North Middleton Township Municipal Building. The classes will consist of four weekly meetings of two hours each with a test after the last session. They will advertise the classes on their website, posters at the local library, schools, and township buildings. The goal is to reach everyone that wants to get a license so that they can take advantage of this training opportunity.
