Grant: DVRA 5-Meter EME Facility

Date: February 2023
Amount: $20,000

The Delaware Valley Radio Association (DVRA) was founded in 1932 by a group of local hams. The club maintains a voice repeater, APRS digi repeater (for messaging and position information), and WinLink VHF-RMS for emergency message handling. The club’s monthly meetings provide educational talks covering technical, regulatory, and operating topics of interest. DVRA also conducts frequent hands-on seminars both at the shack and online covering topics such as electronic kit building, using test instruments, building and installing antennas, and experimental demonstration of transmission line properties. The DVRA shack is open to members and to the public at regularly scheduled hours publicized on the club website.

This grant will fund the construction of a new, five-meter dish antenna that will support multiple projects at The College of New Jersey and give club members and local hams access to a highly capable Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) facility. The new facility will, for example, allow the club to conduct radio astronomy demonstrations and provide a reliable and readily available platform for the further development and enhancement of WSJT-X software.
