Grant: Emergency Communication Resilience Project
Date: August 2025
Amount: $3,850
The Radio Society of Sri Lanka (RSSL) supports amateur radio activities, youth engagement, and public service communications across the country. The organization conducts hands-on workshops with universities and Scout groups, participates in Jamboree on The Air, operates national radio infrastructure, and regularly supports disaster response efforts during floods and other emergencies through volunteer-led communications.
With the awarded funding, RSSL will expand its emergency communications capabilities by deploying portable, grid-independent HF and VHF stations, distributing handheld radios to trained volunteers, and establishing Sri Lanka’s first Winlink gateway. The project focuses on improving disaster readiness, strengthening volunteer response capacity, and ensuring reliable communications when power and cellular networks are unavailable.
