Grant: Northwest Indiana Radio Outreach and Revitalization Project
Date: May 2025
Amount: $27,462
The Porter County Amateur Radio Club (PCARC), K9PC, is a cornerstone of amateur radio in Northwest Indiana. Since the 1950s, PCARC has fostered radio knowledge, technical proficiency, and community spirit. They offer monthly meetings and license testing.
The Northwest Indiana Radio Outreach and Revitalization Project aims to position PCARC as a regional leader in STEM education, emergency communications, and amateur radio revitalization by deploying a fully equipped 7×14 enclosed trailer as a mobile radio hub. This initiative will create a dynamic platform to engage Northwest Indiana’s youth, families, and communities in the art and science of radio communication, driving club growth and community resilience.
Their objectives include school outreach and STEM education at 6 or more schools, scouting support and skill development at 4-6 events annually, attending 4-6 county events annually to showcase amateur radio to the public, and using the trailer for emergency communications.
