The Southeast Community Development Corporation (SCDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education, technology access, and economic opportunities for underserved communities in Southeast Los Angeles. SCDC has worked to bridge the digital divide by providing technology education, workforce development, and community empowerment programs to youth and adults in low-income communities.

For the past 13 years, SCDC has prioritized STEM education, equipping individuals with the digital skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. Through its three regional technology centers, SCDC offers hands-on learning opportunities in:

  • Basic Digital Literacy & Computer Skills
  • Computer Coding & Robotics
  • 3D Design & Printing
  • Makerspace & Virtual Reality
  • Basic Electronics & Radio Communication

In addition, SCDC has established an ARRL-affiliated youth ham radio club, KN6TZH, providing students with unique learning experiences in radio technology, emergency communication, and hands-on electronics projects.

With this grant, the Southeast Community Development Corporation (SCDC) will expand its Youth Electronics Academy to provide hands-on STEM workshops in electronics, radio communication, and Arduino programming for over 600 students in Southeast Los Angeles. The program includes mentorship from local amateur radio clubs and partners. It aims to build STEM skills, emergency communication knowledge, and college and career readiness for underserved youth. All classes and resources will be free to youth and the general public.
