Grant: Operation Hamulanche III
Date: March 2026
Amount: $2,923
Sunrise R-IX School District in De Soto, Missouri will bring amateur radio into its middle school science classes through Operation Hamulanche III. The project uses radio as a hands-on way to teach waves, circuits, electricity, magnetism, and signals.
With ARDC grant funding, the school will purchase soldering equipment, digital clock kits, radio direction finding gear, circuit kits, and classroom materials. Students will build electronics projects and take part in a fox hunt using handheld radios and GPS. They will also experiment with Morse code and learn about early wireless communication.
The goal is to make radio-based lessons part of the regular science curriculum and encourage more students to explore STEM fields.
