Grant: System-Wide Digital Backbone Modernization for Distributed Amateur Radio Infrastructure
Date: May 2026
Amount: $5,825
West Central Indiana Amateur Radio operates an amateur radio repeater network across West Central Indiana. The repeaters are connected using VoIP links, cloud-hosted services, site-to-site VPNs, managed switches, VLANs, and remotely managed digital nodes.
This project will replace older gateway and routing equipment and bring the networking setup at the active repeater sites up to a common standard. The upgrades will include managed switches, VLANs, secure site-to-site connections, improved power protection, and surge protection. These changes will make the network more reliable, reduce downtime, and give the organization a better foundation for expanding and experimenting with VoIP-based repeater linking.
