Grant: UMS High School Morse Code Classes

Date: March 2026
Amount: TBD

The Union Métropolitaine des Sans-Filistes de Montréal (VE2UMS) is an amateur radio club that was founded in 1975. It promotes amateur radio through training, community activities, and public service while supporting new operators and maintaining shared infrastructure in the Montreal area.

This project expands Morse code workshops already running in local high schools. Students learn Morse code and basic radio skills through hands-on activities, then use portable “shack-in-a-box” stations to operate on the air. The program aims to reduce dropout rates, build confidence, and introduce students to amateur radio as a technical path. It also focuses on growing youth participation and preparing a new generation of operators who can support clubs and emergency communications in the future.
