Grant: W3AEQ On Campus Amateur Radio Station

Date: May 2026
Amount: $20,000

The Lehigh University Wireless Communications Society, W3AEQ, is reestablishing an amateur radio station on campus. The student-run club will use the station to promote amateur radio licensing and give students on-air experience.

The grant will establish a permanent station in Packard Laboratory with equipment for HF, VHF, UHF, microwave, and satellite operations. Students will be able to earn their amateur radio licenses and gain experience operating the station. The club will establish regular open hours for demonstrations and instruction and will host activities such as Jamboree on the Air and School Club Roundup for local youth. Students will also begin work on an amateur radio mesh network using AREDN or Broadband Hamnet.
