Grant: Amateur Radio for Kids

Date: May 2022
Amount: $11,859

The Spout Springs Repeater Association (SSRA) is a very active amateur radio association with repeaters high in the beautiful Blue Mountains of Northeastern Oregon and in the Tri-Cities area of Southeastern Washington. Their mission is to mentor new hams, enhance fellowship among radio amateurs, provide emergency and public service communications support to our communities, and further the interests of amateur radio.

This grant will allow SSRA to:

  • Replace their Yaesu DR-1 repeaters with a Yaesu DR-2 repeater that will operate on both 2 meters and 70 cm simultaneously.
  • Conduct free, online Tech classes for K-12 students and pay all exam and license fees.
  • Purchase and give graduates a Baofeng BF-888 handy-talkie to get them involved in amateur radio and to further interest them in activities such as fox hunting and youth social nets.
  • Encourage and empower the youths to upgrade their licenses
