ZUM Radio, pioneers in the amateur radio manufacturing industry, develop and produce quality communications equipment for the amateur radio enthusiast, focusing on digital mode repeaters and hotspots. They are one of the founding members of the multimode digital voice modem (MMDVM) project, which aims to consolidate all existing MMDVM-based projects into one open-source project. Despite the project’s previous success, headcount has decreased, thus hindering the project’s overall efficiency. Thus, there is a current need for a full-time software developer to work on multiple parts of the MMDVM project, moving along many of its pending tasks.
This grant will provide funding to hire a full-time software engineer onto the MMDVM project team to complete the aforementioned pending tasks, such as bug mitigation, creating a dashboard that is user-friendly, and improving the core code module (MMDVMHost) relating to both the display interface and digital modes, ultimately developing better products for the end users.
